Production Blog Editing Music Video

Image
The editing for this project was a roller-coaster of emotions and definitely much more difficult than the first project. For the first project, all I had to do was color grade overall, so I had to make one preset and apply it to the entire commercial. For the music video however, I needed to color grade differently for different scenes. For the color grading, I had to use the lightroom app, which required a premium subscription in order to color grade video. To get around this, we used an email to claim the seven day free trial. For example, I wanted the beach scenes to have a warmer, more orange tone to them, Outer-Banks style. However for the city scenes, like walking and getting ice cream, I was going for a cooler tone for the surroundings while making the two look warm, to show that they were the most important thing in the scene. The color grading process caused me to spend time learning how to properly color grade every individual scene, knowing what scenes needed what. Colo...

Production Blog Filming Two Music Video

Image
My group and I needed to continue filming the rest of the music video, but with half of it down, we felt we were on good pace for the day. Our goal was to finish in one day, as we didn't want to stretch it out to multiple days because of unavailability. This goal was met and for that I am proud and thankful for, for both my group and the day working with us. We needed to film the seventh scene, which was again another date scene. This time, the scene was the two on an ice cream date, holding and embracing each other while laughing together. This scene was pretty easy and fun to film, to be honest, the entire filming process was fun as my group and I practically got to drive around the city together having fun. The ice cream scene was easy to film since Carson, my group mate who plays the boy, had real chemistry with the girl which he was acting with, since they are dating in real life too. They made the whole filming process better and made it feel much less awkward than it would ...

Production Blog Filming Music Video

Image
On Monday, my group and I decided to film our music video. At first, we had thoughts to split up the filming days, filming some of the video on one day and the other part another. Ultimately, we decided that we would not have  enough time with all of our extracurriculars like work and sports, so we decided on filming the whole thing that day, no matter how long it took or what got in our way. We began with the first scene, where we had to film the inside of Carson's car driving. My job as cameraman was to film the music video in it's entirety, so I made sure to bring my dads camera. To film this scene, I had to position myself in the back in order to get the wanted over-the-shoulder shot we were going for. I felt this was going to look good in the music video, especially with him actually driving the car. I had to do a couple re-shoots due to potholes messing up the steadiness of the camera, or even my own faults like having the ISO set too high. After this scene, it was time...

Story Board Music Video

Image
Scene 1: Scene opens with man inside of the car, showing him driving while the interlude of the song plays, introducing our main character. Scene 2: Camera cuts to show inside of a party/club, where we meet our the characters soon to be partner. It shows a girl dancing while the song lyrics begin to be introduced. The man can be seen in this party approaching the girl. Scene 3: The boy and girl are now talking with each other, following the lyrics of the song and playing out the story. The camera is revolving around them as they are talking to each other.  Scene 4: The camera then cuts to show just the eyes of the girl, as if it is being seen from the boys perspective. In the girls eyes is a reflection of the boy and girl together, signifying what the boy sees for their future. Scene 5: Camera swings up, and a blur effect is added, signaling that the boy is now having thoughts/day dreaming. The sequence of the boy daydreaming him and the girl going on a picnic date on the beach Sce...

Planning Blog Music Video

To begin with, the music video is a big switch from an advertising type video. So the use of props, costumes, music, and editing will be vital in this process. As well as the use of different camera angles, locations, pans and much more.  Locations: To begin with the use locations, we will be using various locations throughout the whole video. For example there will be scenes in cars, inside buildings, and etc.. The use of locations in this music video will vary and there will be many switches throughout the video.  Props: The many props we will use include microphones, glasses, hats, costumes, and more. The schedule will probably be around nighttime to really enhance the mood and the lighting that will portray to the theme of the video. The setting will be in a down town setting that will shift into the highway at some points. Along with different scenes not in the car. There will be two main characters in the music video. The main purpose of the music video is t...
