Production Blog Filming Music Video
On Monday, my group and I decided to film our music video. At first, we had thoughts to split up the filming days, filming some of the video on one day and the other part another. Ultimately, we decided that we would not have enough time with all of our extracurriculars like work and sports, so we decided on filming the whole thing that day, no matter how long it took or what got in our way. We began with the first scene, where we had to film the inside of Carson's car driving. My job as cameraman was to film the music video in it's entirety, so I made sure to bring my dads camera. To film this scene, I had to position myself in the back in order to get the wanted over-the-shoulder shot we were going for. I felt this was going to look good in the music video, especially with him actually driving the car. I had to do a couple re-shoots due to potholes messing up the steadiness of the camera, or even my own faults like having the ISO set too high. After this scene, it was time to film the party scene where the girl is introduced. This scene was a bit trickier to film, since the camera settings had to be played around with as the setting was now darker and there were more lights coming into play. I had to re-shoot this scene a couple times just because of certain things being in frame that I didn't like and camera settings making the shots look funky. Other than that, the shot was fairly easy to film. The third scene was much easier to film since it took place in the same setting, so all the settings were perfect. The only thing kind of difficult was deciding on where to angle the camera to show the boy coming into frame and then eventually revolving around the two talking to each other. The fourth scene was also easy to film since now all I had to do was film the girls eyes, this shot was easy to do since it was being taken from the perspective of the boy, so all I had to do was put the camera where the boys head/eyes were. The fifth scene was easy to film, but the change of location was what made it annoying to film, since we had to go from a room to a beach. The scene was easy to film however, since all I had to do was point and shoot at the two eating on the beach together. The sixth scene was surprisingly hard to film. Since the scene was the two walking through the city, we had to walk on the sidewalk, and it is always crowded. When we were there, it was crowded and hard to film a continuous shot with the numerous obstacles, whether it was people in our way, photo bombers, or bikers, there was always something in the way, either messing up the shot or making us stop.
