Production Blog Overall

Image
Overall, the entire commercial is basically done. I’ve reviewed the commercial with my group mates and have even seen the commercials of my other classmates. I can admit, our commercial could have been better, but I don’t think it is bad for a first production effort. Sure there could have been things we could’ve done better, but I feel as though this was a necessary step in the learning process. By seeing how this commercial has done, and how it has came out overall, it has helped me develop important skills that I will be able to use towards other production efforts in the future. The group I worked with was pretty good, I liked everyone I worked with and everyone did their part. It was tough splitting up the larger group we had at the start, but now, I am glad we made the decisions we did. I see myself working with my group mates for future projects, as we have built a stronger relationship with each other and know how to work with each others schedules. The commercial still is...

Production Blog Editing

Image
Once all the filming was done, we went inside and booted up the computer. I filmed on an I-phone, so I first needed to combine all the clips so it was one continuous video ready for editing. Some scenes needed to be shortened, since they were dragging the time on for too long. Once I composed all of the clips, it was time to edit the color. My job for editing was taking care of the lighting/colors of the video. The video raw was lacking, and the colors of our product weren't popping how I wanted. I wanted to get a summer feel for the video, since the commercial revolved around running and refreshing drinks. I exported the video and sent it to myself. I opened up my I-pad and opened up Lightroom. Going into this process, I thought Lightroom was free, and it is, at least for pictures. For videos, you need Premium. So I signed up for the seven-day free trial and got to work. I watched a couple videos on color grading and how to use white balances and shadows to your advantage in...

Production Blog Filming at Bens House

Image
On Sunday, my group and I began filming my/our very first production. It was sort of difficult to come up with a time where everyone was available due to me being at work and other group members having other events like soccer and football games. Me being the cameraman, I was responsible for bringing the camera, adapters, and the laptop we would be editing on. When I was getting ready to begin filming, I noticed where the suns position was not working with the camera, and made the scenes we were filming look very bright, and sometimes even barely able to see my group members. I made sure to adapt, and we moved to an area with more shade, and even waited a little bit for the sun to move. Filming the first scene was somewhat of a challenge; as the cameraman, I needed to get down on the ground, and seeing as my group members and I were in the road, I had to act quick, getting the right shot before any cars appeared in the road. This scene had to be re-filmed a couple times, but in th...

Scene 1: Video starts with empty road, runner then appears into frame, running past camera and down the empty road. Runner is wearing athletic wear and running with Gatorade in hand.  Scene 2: Camera jump cuts to runner, he looks clearly tired and is losing his running form, running sloppier and sloppier, as he is slowing down the camera pans to side shot of runner.  Scene 3: Runner takes cap of Gatorade to replenish energy, but suddenly feels dizzy and looks disoriented. Heartbeat can be heard increasing more and more.  Scene 4: Runner collapses, seems unwell and clearly ‘out of it’, camera zooms in and runners heartbeat can be heard louder and louder as well as heavy breathing. Scene 5: Stranger runs into frame and helps the runner up, the stranger also gives the runner a Powerade and says something along the lines of, “Here, this should help”. Runner takes a sip of Powerade and says something along the lines of, “Wow, I feel great!”  Scene 6: Runner now has Powera...

Props: Since me and my groupmates have come to the conclusion that we shall be doing a Powerade commercial, our main prop would be a bottle of Powerade. Some of the other props include a Gatorade bottle, headband, running shoes, sport glasses and lastly a cooler. Costumes: In the commercial three out of the four of us will be dressed up in athletic wear, which includes the glasses, shoes, hats, and even a sports watch. The athletic wear chosen for this specific commercial should be something eye-catching such as bright clothing like neon. Depending on our personal preferences we will choose different accessories along the listed props. For example, maybe one of my groupmates will wear a headband to keep their hair out of their eyes. If some props are unobtainable for us then we will resort to what we have. Schedule 9/6/2024: The group came together and chose our commercial brand and implemented ideas. 9/14/2024: The group will establish the materials/props need in order to film the co...
