How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? The dark aesthetic of the house and kitchen add a lot of suspense. In the kitchen and the living room the lights shut off and it is pitch black. The use of little to no lighting throughout builds suspense and creates tension, which is what the genre thriller offers.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? In the opening sequence, the images prioritized are the ocean and waves crashing against rocks, which are put at low exposure. There are also images inside the house, both on the ceiling and the corner of the wall. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? When they show the universal globe in the first image of the film, the music/sound used is very dark and mysterious, already creating tension, and creating that thriller-feeling genre. One of the conventions of the T hriller  genre that Black Swan has is the cross-cutting editing, This editing does a good job of showing the viewer Nina's professional and personal life and how they collide. It employs factors of tension building and suspense, all adding up to the thrill. Another convention the movie has is close-ups and POV shots. These shots put the audience into the shoes of Nina, making them feel just a sliver of what the character is feeling, and adding to the claustrophobic feeling which only improves the thrill of the movie.  What conventions of the Thriller genre does "Whiplash" have? One of the conventions of the T hriller genre that Whiplash has is it's tense acting. Whether it be the scene at the dinner table where Neiman is arguing with one of his family members, or when he is playing the drums and Fletcher keep pushing him past his limits. These shows of acting increase tension and immerse the viewer into the world of Neiman, which effectively makes this movie a great thriller. Another convention the movie uses is quick cuts, which effectively builds tension and heightens the urgency and chaos of the moment. It matches the music in the background while also showing how the characters frantically try to keep up. What conventions of the genre  Thriller does the movie "Us" have? First off, one of the conventions the movie "Us" has from the Thriller  genre is its dark and eerie setting. The movies setting of the beach and the underground tunnels the characters encounter help to build the suspense that thriller movies have. The dark setting and conflict between characters also aids in building suspense. The movie also uses close up shots and tracking shots, which help to create tension and immerse the viewer into the world of the characters.   For the final task we decided to go with the genre of thriller. We chose this drama since we loved the suspense and mystery thriller brought. We though the other genres were some what boring and would not go with the idea we have in mind. As well, the conventions of the thriller genre were appealing to us. The fact that we could be in multiple locations and add suspense caught our attention easily. This is why we as a group decided to make thriller the genre for our final task.
