Production Blog Filming Two FT
Filming continued to go smoothly as we went along, but this time it was different. In the past, we would film everything we needed to in one day or one night, most likely because those projects were shorter than the others. This project was around 2 minutes long, meaning we would not be able to film everything on one day, especially since our schedules now are much more packed. The beach scene was kind of hard to film, since it was difficult finding an area where we could make the car pass by and then get Dylan (stalker) to disappear with the car. For one, filming the shot was hard due to glare from the sun, once Carson realized this, we made sure to switch sides so that the scene would come out fine. Filming was also hard since we needed to make sure to not get anyone who didn't want to be on camera in frame, respecting their privacy. The beach is a busy place, especially right by the water, so getting the right angle and filming point was a little tricky. There was also a lot of noise by the beach, which the camera made sure to pick up on, which made filming the dialogue between Ben and I difficult, causing us to move to another place to film. Filming on the main road was too hard, and wouldn't look good, so we had to find another spot to film the scene. We ended up moving to the backroads where it was easier to film, as there was less noise and better filming environment. For certain scenes, we had to get creative as to how we would achieve the shots we needed. For example, for the scene where the victim is in the car and sees the stalker in the rearview, we had to position Carson in a certain place so that he could get a good shot of the rearview mirror and then also swing the camera for the action shot. The rearview mirror part was tricky since I didn't know what Carson what was seeing, so I had to be able to adjust the mirror properly so that the camera could catch Dylan in the reflection. There was also some glare in the mirror, so we had to move the car elsewhere which took some time to find a good parking spot. Another scene that was easy to film but hard to do was the gas station scene. All of the shots were relatively easy to film but the hard part was making sure the scenes looked how we wanted them to, without random people in the shots or random noises. Ben knew the gas station clerk, so we were able to get permission to film in the gas station easily, that was one of our biggest worries about a possible roadblock when planning. For the scene where it's from the POV of the stalker, we had to position Carson as Dylan, and have certain things be in the right position to make the shot look more cinematic and leave room for editing. Carson had to kneel down towards Dylan's height and get behind one of the aisles in order to get the needed shot, he also tilted the camera to make it look like a person peeking from out an aisle. Overall, filming for this project did require some flexibility, and we did have our roadblocks, but in the end, we made sure to get everything done and get the shots we needed.
