Production Blog Deciding Locations
The production process was long and rewarding. My group and I had many different areas of aspects that we focused on, one that we didn't know was so important was deciding on the location. Seeing as we were going with a suspense project, we decided that the locations needed to play towards the tones. We knew that anywhere would work as long as the story was strong enough and we had the right idea. Even though the location could be used in different ways depending on what it was, we decided on having common places of location. This would make filming easier, since everywhere would be easier to film at and get to. When me and my group were deciding on what the actual locations we would film at would be, we hit a roadblock. In between my group members and I, we disagreed on the most important locations to have in the film. I wanted to have a scene in a movie theater, even though it would be a harder one to film. I felt that a movie theater would play an important role as a location in the film, as the location's dark atmosphere, paired with the dark vibe of the story, would make for a good outcome. In the end, my group mates and I ended up agreeing that the movie theater as a location would be too hard to film. While I still believe that including the theatre as a location would have added a darker vibe to the film, I trust my groupmates and I'm pleased with how the project came out. To discuss the final locations we used, I'm happy with everything that made the cut. In total, we had four main locations used in this project. These 4 consisted of the gas station at the beach, a park and a home. The beach and the home were no brainers when it came to choosing, they are easy to film at and easy to access. There was some stigma around filming at the gas station, while it was a great location, we did not know how we would film, since we needed to consider people's privacy. We decided to move forward with the gas station and I'm glad that we did, the same thing happened with the park, since we knew it would be a good place to film it, but again, wanted to respect people's privacy. After sorting through all of the issues and hearing what everyone had to say for each location, it was final that the beach, the gas station, the home and the park, we're going to make the final cut. Picking the locations and then actually going and filming at them was a fun part of this project and crucial to do with my groupmates!
