Pitch Blog
My group and I have landed on 2 different pitches for our commercial, and have chosen which we will be going with.
Pitch 1:
Scene opens with a man running down a road/beach, looking clearly exhausted, breathing heavily with sounds of his heart beating quickly, he pulls out a Gatorade and takes a sip, hoping to rehydrate himself, but instead collapses. Others running see and help him up, handing him a Powerade and saying something along the lines of, "Here, drink this". The runner who collapsed has a quick beating heart, which can be heard, and as he takes a sip the beating quiets and slows down, and he says something along the lines of "Ooh, I feel great". He throws the Gatorade to the side, holding the Powerade in his hand, and starts running again because he feels amazing. Logo comes onto the screen and says something like, "Powerade, an energizer that works".
We thought of this pitch while in class and decided on making it based around running/something athletic because we have noticed that in all energy/hydration drink commercials, there is always an athletic aspect in it, most commonly sports/running. We decided on running because everyone in our group is an active person, and running is a common thing for them. We thought of this after a discussion about what is best to drink after a run emerged.
Pitch 2:
Scene opens with a soccer player standing on a pitch, crowd cheering loudly in the back, he sets the ball at the penalty line and the camera rises up to him eye to eye. He begins to close his eyes, but takes a sip of Gatorade right before. He lets out a breath, with the crowd noise fading and the sound of his exhale being heard. He takes the shot but the goalie saves it, the crowd starts cheering loudly and the camera shows the goalie celebrating with the crowd, when he then takes a sip of Powerade. The camera shows the penalty taker being mad, throwing the Gatorade, and pans back to the goalie grinning. The camera goes black and the title shows, saying something like, "Powerade, never disappointing".
We thought of this pitch after we were discussing sports in class. We realized that 2/4 of us in the group play soccer, and that this could be a fun commercial to film. While we all do not play soccer, we all do enjoy watching it, and are pretty familiar with the sport. We also decided to base the pitch around a sport/athleticism because of the commercial being about an energy drink. We wanted to do this pitch at first due to the fun nature of it, but soon realized that the amount of editing and work it would take to find a location fit for the commercial could be a little too much to fit into our already busy schedules.
Decision:
My group and I decided on going with Pitch 1 as it shows more team building, and there is a more positive tone overall in the commercial. There is no making fun or bringing down of anyone, and instead focuses on how the specific drink can bring people together. Pitch 1 also seems like the easier option, since we would not have to find a big, nice football pitch to shoot on.
